Young Mother Dies When Hijab Gets Caught in Go-Kart
Safety must come first
A young 26-year-old woman from Sydney, Australia died this week when her hijab got caught in a go-kart. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.
Unfortunately this is not the first time this has happened, women have been killed before when their scarves got caught in go-karts. In 1927, dancer Isadora Duncan was killed while driving in a convertible when her scarf became tangled in the wheel.
While it’s probably not wise to drive with a scarf a hijab is a religious item and worn when in public. Women who choose to wear a hijab as well as women with long hair should make sure to carefully secure the scarf or hair under your firesuit and beneath your helmet. We want women to drive, race and kart, but please make sure to take all safety precautions.
