Women Are Now Racing Cars in Iraq

The Speed Center, a facility in Erbil, Iraq, is the first of its kind in the region and they are encouraging Iraqi women to race.

Ari Kanimarani, the Director General of the Center said that they are looking to train drivers in the region, including women, and they are looking to race in international competitions. “We have many skilled drivers to be sent abroad; 5 male drivers and some female drivers, who only need a slight training to go for international competitions.” Kanimarani also noted that he would like to organize a female-only race in the future.

The Center boasts three different motorsports facilities: a karting track, an off-road buggy arena and a motorcycle track. In addition, at the Center there is a 5-star hotel and luxury villas for purchase. Erbil is located in Northern Iraq and it is the capital of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region.
