More Women are Becoming Auto Technicians

The Chicago Sun Times printed an interesting story on why there should be more women in the automotive industry.

Jim Macpherson writes that although the car industry has been dominated by men in the past, this is changing. He bases this on the fact that cars are changing. No longer is auto work about lifting and moving parts or even getting dirty. Now, it’s all about technology. And he notes that there has been an increase in female auto technicians (as they’re now called).

Macphereson also notes that these women are in demand. He quotes Mark Berardi, an admissions representative for the New England Technical Institute, a private vocational school that trains auto technicians who said,  “‘Service stations and dealers want to diversify.’ They’ve noticed that most of their customers are women.”
