Book Review: Thoroughly Modern Motoring Manners
Ever wondered how to be the perfect car host, how to properly exit a car in a skirt, or proper etiquette at a gas station? All the answers and more are contained in the new book Thoroughly Modern Motoring Manners from Debrett’s and Vauxhaull.
Here are some top tips for ladies:
* On how to exit a car “Smooth down your skirt, keeping your knees together, swivel your body and swing your legs outwards. Place one foot down, keeping your knees together. Dip your head and shoulders forward and slide and glide out of the car.” We find this also works when exiting a low-to-the-ground supercar.
* “Ensure that your fashion sense never compromises your safety.”
* “It’s dangerous to drive in high heels or flimsy/loose shoes. If you’re addicted to chic footwear, keep a pair of flat, pump-style shoes in the car.”
And our favorite, regarding navigation:
* “Men were hunter-gatherers, sourcing food and fuel, which helped them develop and fine tune their orienteering skills.” Well, we say, go on men you can navigate while we commandeer the steering wheel—that works just fine for us!
The book also lists some unique driving laws around the globe. Did you know:
* In Alabama, It’s illegal to drive while wearing a blindfold
* In California, it’s illegal to drive in a housecoat
* In South Korea, “All bribes received from motorists by traffic police must be reported.”
It’s the perfect gift for the motoring enthusiast in your life and it’s only $8.93. Happy motoring and remember, be polite on the road!
