Audi Dominates Le Mans 24 Hour
Audi came out on top at the 2010 Le Man 24 Hour race winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. They were not the fastest manufacturer, Peugeot was, but this is an endurance race not a sprint. Peugeot had won the first three spots on the starting grid but remarkably not one Peugeot even finished.
Wolfgang Ullrich, the director of the Audi team said “We were confident that the cars would be reliable and last the 24 hours. We knew we were not as fast as the Peugeots, and I told the drivers to drive fast, but without taking risks.”
The women did not fair well this year. The all-female team (Cyndie Allemann, 24, Natacha Gachnang, 22, and Rachel Frey, 24) had their Ford GT Matech catch on fire and they were out. Vanina Ickx crashed and was also out.
