3 Women Racing Indy at Watkins Glen This Weekend
Simona de Silvestro
This Sunday July 4th, 3 women will be racing Indy at Watkins Glen—Danica Patrick, Milka Duno and Simona de Silvestro.
This will be de Silvestro’s first time at the Glen. Rookie de Silvestro is often compared with Danica Patrick, so does she think they have similarities?
“Driving wise I don’t know if we are really different, I haven’t really looked at it. She’s done a lot for us women in the sport, so I think it’s very good for all of us.”
We think de Silvestro is a class act! Ladies, good luck to you all and happy 4th of July!

This Dealership Thinks Women are Scared About Buying Cars
Jim and Katie Shorkey, who own a Kia/Suzuki dealership in Pennsylvania, seem to think buying a car is “scary” for a woman. Jezebel thinks Jim and Katie Shorkey have the “Worlds dumbest car dealership.” We think Jim and Katie probably need some education when it comes to both women & cars and marketing.
Jim and Katie, to jumpstart your education, here are a few facts about women and buying cars: Women buying cars in India has recently increased threefold—We guess women in India aren’t scared of buying cars. Women buy 20% of the new Ferraris in China—Granted maybe these 20% only bought them because Ferrari red matched their Louboutins. In the UK, a study showed that 60% of moms enjoy the process of buying a car—perhaps after giving birth buying a car is like a walk in the park. You can feel free to use these facts in your next ad, free of charge.

Bad Day at Nascar for Danica
At the Nascar Nationwide Series in New Hampshire Danica Patrick finished 30th.
Danica had started in the back in 25th position and seemed to just lose ground from there. She even had a run-in with the oldest driver Morgan Shepherd, 68. But after all, she is still a rookie in Nascar and still learning the subtleties of the oval.
Danica is back at Indy next weekend at Watkins Glen and then back to Nascar at Chicago Speedland the following week.

Danica Races Nascar and is Wooed With Shoes
Danica Patrick is racing at the Nascar Nationwide Series today in New Hampshire. Certainly she is hoping for a win but before the race even started she was presented with a prize.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway Vice President Jerry Gappens gave the driver a pair of shoes listed in the press as costing $1000 (although really they cost $790). You see when Danica first announced she was going to race Nascar she said she was only competing in certain races and Gappens wanted to make sure New Hampshire was one of them. He first tried to woo her with what every girl wants—Maine lobster. Then his wife suggested something a little more exciting, and thus the present. Ticket sales for the race went up 20% so the shoes were probably a good investment.
At least Gappens has good taste—the shoes were Yves Saint Laurant Tribute platform sandals! Buy the same shoes here.

Research Shows Women and Men Crash Cars Differently
Diamond Insurance looked at data from over 2 million accidents over 5 years and found a difference between the sexes.
According to Sian Lewis, the Managing Director of Diamond “Women tend to be in more accidents at slower speeds, where cars are close together, while men have more high-speed accidents where it is easy to lose control.”
Also, women tend to get into accidents in the parking lot, at traffic lights and hit roundabouts while men tend to have more head-on collisions or hit a crash barrier. They also found that men and women drive differently. Men drive faster and aggressively while women tend to be distracted while driving.
There were some rather odd findings as well. Women’s cars are broken into more than men’s but men are more likely to have their car stolen. The research also claims that men’s cars are more likely to catch on fire and they’re more likely go drive through a flood. Ok, so women like to put on some lipstick while driving but men what are you doing to light your car on fire so often?

Is it True Women Can’t Park?
Although we’ve seen reports about how women can’t park we have also seen some great videos of women parking with style, including one of our favorites with an adorable young girl. But this one from Sweden for Dackia tires might be the best one yet.

17-Year-Old Girl Runs Across US to Raise Awareness for Truckers Fund
Jasmine Jordan, 17, has run across America to raise awareness for St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. She began in Los Angeles in September of 2009 and is close to arriving in New York. She is the youngest person ever to run across America.
Jordan had been training for the 2012 olympics when she decided to put her dream on hold and embark on her run across America. Her family owns a trucking company and she was inspired by one of their drivers, Sheila Grothe, who had cancer and eventually died. When Grothe passed away Jordan decided she would run to raise awareness.
Jordan writes on her website, “On that day I made a decision, that I will do something to change the system so people who don’t have medical coverage that will pay for treatments like Sheila needed will have options.”
When she passed through Washington D.C. recently several Department of Transportation employees ran with her. Ray LaHood, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, called her “A true American Hero.”
The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) is a not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance to professional truck drivers who have medical problems and can not otherwise afford healthcare. SCF also conducts health research to benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry.
