Drinking and Driving in a Barbie Car
Mr. Paul Hutton from the UK was pulled over by police for drinking and driving…in a Barbie car. Mr. Hutton who is 40 years old was driving the 4 mph car made for 3-5 year olds.
The former Royal Air Force engineer was working on modifying the car with his son who is taking a car mechanics course. However, the car could still be outrun by a mobility scooter.
Mr. Hutton, who was twice the legal drinking limit, had been pulled over for drunk driving in the past and this time was sentenced to a mandatory 3 year ban, a 12 month conditional discharge and a small fine.
The judge had this to say: “I have never seen the like of it in 15 years on the bench.” No word as to whether he was headed to Malibu Barbie’s house for a pool party.

Betty White Talks Cadillacs and Birds
White's beloved Parakeet, a 1977 Cadillac Seville
Nick Kurczewski of the New York Times wrote a fantastic piece about Betty White and her beloved 1977 Cadillac Seville. Ms. White’s car, with less than 18,000 miles on it, was recently donated to the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Pennsylvania by its current owner. You see she donated it to the LA Humane Society (she’s an avid supporter of animal rights) in 2002.
The “seamist green” Cadillac was a gift from her late husband. He had surprised her with the car, the most expensive Cadillac of the day, one evening after returning from a trip.
Being that Ms. White is an animal lover each of her cars are named after birds. This Seville is named “Parakeet.” She also had a yellow Cadillac named “Canary” and currently she has a silver one named “Seagull.”
When Kurczewski asked Ms. White if she allows pets in her cars she replied “Oh, they’re not ruled out of anything in my life.” Then she ends by “sending her love” to Kurczewski’s dog Merlin. Betty White we knew you were cool, but now that we know you love cars, name them after birds, and care about auto journalists pets—we love you even more!

Cynthia Telles Named to GM Board
Dr. Cynthia Telles, a neuropsychiatrist, has become the 13th member of the board of GM. Although we’re certainly pleased GM appointed a woman, we must admit that she seems a strange interesting choice.
Dr. Telles has never worked in the auto industry and she is the Director of the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute Spanish-Speaking Psychosocial Clinic. She specializes in the mental health of hispanic populations and was also recently named to the National Advisory Council of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
GM said that appointing Telles “ensures that the company will continue to benefit from a diversity of perspectives and experience.” We don’t necessarily understand it, but we like it.

Who Says Women Don’t Like Buying Cars?
A study out of the UK shows that many moms actually like buying cars. The study was conducted by Carmony.
The research shows that 60% of moms enjoy the process of buying a car. Only 3% of moms say they think their husband should be in charge of buying the car.
Alan Hazelhurst, Managing Director of Carmony, had this to say: “It’s a common misconception that women are intimidated by the car buying process, our research highlights that the majority of women do enjoy shopping for a car.”
Ok, so this is something we’ve all known for a while, but it’s nice that the car industry is finally catching up with us!
